India’s Orissa state government plans to prohibit iron ore exports


Orissa state government plans to propose to the government of India to prohibit the exports of iron ore and chrome ore from the state; sources said. Shri Raghunath Mohanty, the Minister, Industries Steel and Mines & Parliamentary Affairs, Orissa indicated that they’ve made a draft for the prohibition of iron ore; also, the committee led by Prafulla Ghadai, Orissa’s Finance Minister has started the investigation.

Once the draft is approved by Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Orissa, they will send the official proposal to the c government of India .

Meanwhile, Orissa state’s annual production is at around 75 million tons. Steel manufacturers pointed out that as the government has aimed to clamp down on the illegal mining activity, half of the mines in Orissa state have been shut down. Consequently, they’ve been facing the tight supply of iron ore.
